The city splits into three clear price tiers. £10 community sessions, £12 to £20 wood-fired, and £25 and up for spa days. Here is what you get at each.
Prices across the saunas in this directory run from £9.50 to £63 a session. That spread is not really about quality. It is three different kinds of business, and it helps to know which one you are booking.
£10 and under: the community tier
This is where most of Bristol's recent sauna openings sit. They're small, often run as community interest companies or by a family, and the price is deliberately low.
- Bristol Community Sauna, Brislington: £10, or £5 if you're a member
- Bristol Sauna Yard, Redfield: £10
- Ardagh Community Sauna, Horfield: £10
- Bristol Wild Sauna, Fishponds: £10
- Stone & Steam, Hartcliffe: £10
- Better Keynsham Leisure Centre: £9.50, though that's a leisure-centre sauna rather than a session
At this price you get a 75-minute slot, a cold plunge or cold shower, and somewhere to sit outside. You won't get robes, treatments or a café. Several run memberships that bring it down further. Ardagh does five sessions for £42.
£12 to £20: wood-fired and out of town
The middle tier is mostly wood-fired saunas with a bit more space, often on a farm or in a park, and usually a short drive rather than a walk.
- The Mendip Sauna, Blagdon: from £12
- Suvi Sauna, Easton: £12.50
- Unfold Sauna Club, Backwell: £12.50
- Wildplunge, Farrington Gurney: from £13.50
- Orchard Sauna, Bedminster: £15, with NHS and student discounts
- Aether Sauna, Warleigh Weir: £15, with a guided Aufguss in every session
- Fire & Ice Wellness, Westbury-on-Trym and Old Down: £17.50
- Sivo Wellness, Leigh Court: £20
The extra money buys setting more than anything: a spring-fed plunge pond, valley views, a café, parking. Fire & Ice's two sites are the clearest example. The sauna itself is a wood-fired hut, but it sits in a wildlife park with ice baths and a natural pond.
£25 and up: spa days
At the top end you're paying for a building, not a sauna.
- Lido Spa, Clifton: £25 midweek, £30 at weekends, for two hours
- Bannatyne Redland: £25 day pass
- Village Gym Bristol, Filton: £30
- Harbour Hotel & Spa, city centre: from £40 to £50
- Aztec Hotel & Spa, Almondsbury: £63
These come with a pool, steam room, changing rooms and usually a restaurant. The sauna is one facility among several, and it's generally electric rather than wood-fired. If what you want is a long afternoon rather than a sharp hot-cold session, this is the tier for it.
Private hire
Two venues only do private bookings, which changes the maths if you're a group:
- Field Trip Sauna, Hanham: £60 for up to 6, so £10 each
- Briery Wood Sauna, Portbury: £60 for up to 4, so £15 each
Fire & Ice also hires out privately at £120 an hour for one sauna (up to 8) or £240 for the whole site (up to 16).
The honest summary
If you just want to get hot and cold regularly, the £10 community tier is the whole point of Bristol's sauna scene and there's no meaningful trade-off. Pay more when you specifically want the setting, the space, or somewhere to spend three hours rather than one.
